Archives for the month of: March, 2010

I have said it previously in my posts and would repeat again: I feel our society are moving too fast.

To me, I don’t like this phenomena because I believe that doing things fast doesn’t mean anything if we don’t enjoy it. Doing things efficiently doesn’t matter if it isn’t effective. There is nothing in achievement if there is no joy in the process.

I have often seen this phenomena and would often tell my peers the same thing. I feel our society are rushing too much. I see people rushing into college/university, into relationships (but surprisingly not into marriage), into careers, and any other thing we could think about. We move about endlessly without enjoying our time. We fail to stop and “feel the breeze”.

I haven’t find any reasoning as to why everyone is so rushed in their life. They not only rush in the major things in life but also the minor things in life. Things like going to work, eating, bathing and many daily activities.

I find it hard to understand what’s the hurry at times.

I guess probably we are so caught up in the so-called competitive nature of our society. There is this deep rooted belief that being faster is better, being first is better. I often find this notion ridiculous because I believe that each of us have different paths in life. You might seem to be faster or slower than someone else in the game called “life”, but actually there is no race. The so-called race is just a mere illusion.

We don’t have to get to anywhere in life. We don’t have to “go far” in life.

We are at our own paths. We might be slow or fast based upon the perception of society, but realize that it doesn’t matter because a fulfilled life isn’t based on the perception on society. It’s solely based upon the perception of yourself and where you are.

This quotes put it so well: “Losers compare their achievement with other people, winners compare their achievement with their goals.”

We have to realize that this life is for us to live. We don’t have to live based upon the goals and the expectation of others. Living based upon the perception of others is what the ego does. The ego is such in that it craves the approval of others constantly. It desires for the envy of others. It always find for value from their something outside of the self.

I believe that this is the reason why people are moving at fast paced at the moment- because of the need to please something which is outside of the self.

Slow down. Slowing down doesn’t mean that you are worse off or that you are lazy. It’s just that you learn how to enjoy the process of learning and growing in the scheme of life. You are not a part of the crazy race to get to the top of the mountain, which doesn’t matter at all to you.

Take your time to slowly find the mountain peak that you desire and slowly take your time up that peak. Realize that a true life of fulfillment is a life in which we put joy as a top priority, instead of putting achievement as the main agenda.

I have seen many people spend their days in finding achievement, while putting joy at the backseat. Always keep in mind that the only life that is worthy of living is one which has joy in it, not one filled with achievement.

Success is truly a journey and not a destination.

Take your time. Slow down to enjoy the breeze. Stop and listen to the sounds of peace.

Only when someone who knows how to enjoy the present would know how to enjoy whatever “achievement” that they have. Someone who doesn’t know how would be always striving, not knowing when to stop.

Life is as perfect as it is in the moment.

We have all gotten in a rut at some moments in our lives. It is only natural that we would get in a rut because it’s not easy to constantly remain in a state of excitement and motivated in the pursuit of our goals.

Why We Get Into A Rut ?

We would normally get into a rut because of several reasons. They might be because of external or internal sources. I would highlight a few reasons why we get into a rut sometimes.

  1. Not enough rest. This is apparent enough to many of us. However, we are brought up in this culture where we believe in the essence of hard work. Most of us believe that being hardworking and busy makes us feel valuable. It is the whole social conditioning thing and because of this most of us have inadequate rest. If you constantly feel tired and feel lazy, don’t blame yourself. It is just the way in which the body reacts to tell you that you need to take a real good rest, mentally and physically.
  2. Unclear direction in life. We would normally feel in a rut whenever we lack direction in our lives. It is only normal that we would sometimes feel lost and confused in life because of this bombardment of external influences. This external influences questions our belief in our goals and the person we want to be in life. This lack of direction forces us to feel like we are going no where.
  3. Bad social influences. From my experience, there are times where people CHOOSE to get into a rut. It is not because they ended up there, but because they feel more comfortable being helpless. As much as it’s hard to imagine someone wanting to be in a rut but they actually like being there because it helps them gain more approval from their friends. The phrase “misery loves company” certainly hold true here.
  4. It’s time to listen. There are even times when being in a rut is a good thing to happen to you. Sometimes when we are in a rut, we take time to listen to our inner signals and realize that it’s time to change our approach to our lives or our work tasks. These times when we are in a rut actually serve as indicators that we should be changing our approaches.
  5. Monotonous approach. Another reason for being in a rut is just plain simple: that we are bored. Perhaps our lives needs some change. When we are constantly in the same routine, is easy to be in a rut because we are just bored of it.
  6. Lack of physical exercise. I find it especially true for me when it comes to this point. For the past month of so I have been lacking in exercise. Because of this, I have found out that I constantly feel “low” and unmotivated to perform my work tasks.
  7. Bad habits. It’s only natural that people who have bad habits end up constantly in a rut. Habits like sleeping late, constant consumption of alcohol, excessive sugar intake, bad eating habits all are natural reasons why we feel like we are in a rut. Read the rest of this entry »

Things have been pretty great for me at the moment. Feeling as though I am just at the right moment and at the right situation for just about anything.

I realize the important of being open to events. I know now what they mean by to be non-judgmental. I think the essence of being not judging an event or a situation is simply to learn how to open ourselves to possibilities. Judgment often comes from experiences of the past. When we learn how to remain in the present and open ourselves to possibilities, we understand the true nature of being non-judgmental. Opening ourselves to possibilities allow us to embrace what COULD happen, instead of always trying to comprehend what had happened.

I am doing what I love doing most at the moment of my life. I am now just enjoying life as it is. I am at this stage of my life where what I want from life becomes clearer and clearer. I think I have been feeling so lucky and grateful that words just can’t explain it.

I have reach a point in my life where there are many things which just doesn’t feel right for me anymore. Things like going out mindlessly, having meaningless conversations, doing things just for the sake of it. All these things that doesn’t matter just are shipped away from my mental “schedule”. I just choose not to do it anymore.

My life is filled with a lot of time in reflection and contemplation. I feel it’s important. We are faced with so many influences from outside of us: things like our friends, associates, family members, media and our culture. If we were to live a truly fulfilling life, we have to know ourselves better. Knowing ourselves better allows us to fulfill our own needs better. How can we fulfill our own needs for fulfillment when we don’t even know what fulfills us ?

Going deeper within myself- not something everyone understands; but like I said, my life is not about everyone (or in that case, anyone). It is about me. I don’t see any selfishness in that. In recent months, I has slowly dawned upon me that the best human quality someone could have is knowing how to be happy. To me, there is no other better human quality.

If we were to look at all the problems mankind have faced, we realize that most problems arise because of their inability to find for happiness within themselves. Imagine a world where everyone search for their own happiness. They start from the premise of “me”, instead of searching and being hungry for  the acceptance of others. The world would indeed flourish.

Personal Updates

My time now is mostly spend on work as well as studying for my final paper.

I kinda love the simplicity in just doing something. I feel the inner space and peace that fills from within. I live life by the day. I am not worried about what comes tomorrow. It feels great.

The simplicity of just pursuing a goal within any cares just fulfills me.

I take my own sweet time in life. I am in the moment. I don’t need more to feel full. I am already full. I choose not to rush through my life and just live a life mindless following the impulse of others. I recognize the importance of staying true to my path.

I am slowly realizing a dream to teach children meditation as well. I hope I could start by a few months time.

It’s funny how I am just slowly understanding the importance of having a vision and letting it go. I am in the flow of things.

I guess that’s what my life is at the moment. I feel happy with it. I am happy. ;-p

Padang, Indonesia.

This isn’t exactly a rescue effort but more of a response effort.

It’s a great feeling to really see how a natural disaster actually affects a place. It was a great experience. Something great to be able to do.

My first list item for the year. Haha.

Didn’t really have many quality pictures of the place but I do have the link of  the place below. Enjoy.
