We currently live in an age of distraction. We have so many things which distract us from ourselves, from having a real sense of connection with ourselves.

We are distracted from so many things like facebook, emails, twitter, reading blogs and technology that we fail to realize on things which are more important to us. Technology has evolved in such a way that we fail to really spend time to reconnect with those things which are important to us. Things like a connection to ourselves and having a really good time with people who are close to us. Instead, we choose to be connected at a digital level through social networking sites and through other means made available by the internet.

I have been thinking recently about deleting my facebook account. If it’s not because of my nature of work, I would have easily deleted my account already.

I realize how much time people could spend on facebook without ever realizing it. It’s so easy to just spend a couple of hours just looking at what our friends are doing and doing all those quizes which wastes so much of our time. I personally feel as if facebook is a media in which individuals just spend so much time trying to look good in front of other people. It’s superficial and it becomes a popularity thing. I look at those pictures and how many friends that some people have and I just felt a sense of amusement.

Technology also makes it extremely easy for us to avoid facing the actual problem of things. How many times have I seen individuals using them to just feel better and just avoid things, instead of really facing the problems and really dealing with them?

It is so much easier to just log-on to our facebook account or our online tools than to face the actual problems that we are currently facing. It’s so much easier to disconnect ourselves from the problem than actually face them.

I guess that’s what facing our society at this time of writing; and that we are so used to being distracted from what’s truly important. We are constantly running away from situations which we fear or from an unfulfilled desire. These technology makes us feel better by just totally avoiding them.

The way out is through an awareness. We have to slowly find that awareness to understand that whether we are using technology to our advantage or are we using it to avoid things and situations. If you are one of those who are avoiding situations, do take a step to move away from them.
