I’ll be heading for New Zealand in two weeks time. I’m not sure if I could consider this a holiday because I plan to stay there for a few months. There are several things up in my mind as to what I intent to do while I’m there. My mainSouth Island's Milford Sound purpose of heading down south is to break away from the patterns that have been holding me back. I believe is crucial to once in a while step back from all the habits and patterns that you have been used to, and look at life at a different way. Basically, what I’m saying is to gain a sense of perspective. I need a new “lense”.

I intent to use this journey to give me a sense of direction. I realise how much of my thinking and beliefs are shaped by people around me (parents, elders, friends, media). I intent to use my journey there to best use. I want to think about the big questions in life. I want to use this trip to chart my journey of life.

newzealand_kaikoura-peninsulaI realise that I’ve already reached the age of 20. If I were to live till the age of 80, a quarter of  my life is already gone. I realise how fast time flies. Before I know it, I have already graduated from college and embarking on my working life. Many are so caught up with working and living life, that they do not stop to think. To think of where they are heading. To think of what matters to them. To think if what they are doing day-to-day is really worth it. To think if whether what they are working so hard and spending so much time on is really worth it.

What’s the use of embarking on a journey if the end result is not what you want ?

To think about what matters to you.

To inspire our younger generation to live a life that matters.

To overcome our fears and live day-to-day with full of zest and enthusiasm.newzealand_maori-tattoo

To appreciate the small things in life.

To live a life for which we are fulfilled and truly happy.

To live an impact in the lives of others.

I believe to live a fulfilling life requires three simple steps. I gain this idea from one of Robin Sharma’s books.

The three steps are: Reflection, Commitment and Enjoyment.

Reflection

To think about what matters to us. Think about where we are in our lives. Are we really at a level which we desire ? Are we heading the right path? What are the things we want to improve on?

Commitment

For starters, I would like to state that commitment is sacred. To be able to find what are those things which matters to us refers to the first step. Commitment refers to not quitting and holding on to whatever we choose to commit. It’s only through commitment that we can find true joy in things. Commitment refers to how we give our all to something. It might be a relationship, a goal, a dream or any other things which matters to us. Angelina Jolie said it so well when she said that, ” The only way to have a life is to commit to it like crazy.”

Enjoyment

This is something which many would struggle to understand, even when it seems so obvious. This refers to being able  to enjoy the journey. Many people believe that success requires you to struggle. That’s not success and I truly believe that doing that would not bring you fulfillment. Success and fulfillment comes from enjoying the journey. Not struggling in the journey. Unless we find joy in the journey, fulfillment would not come about. Read my previous post of The Myth Of Hard Work

This post is just what I love to remind myself. I always try to remind myself on the importance of sticking to the things which matters to me. My trip to New Zealand will hopefully serve as a platform for me to gain a new perspective. I need to ask myself and really chart my journey. Thank you.
