Purpose is an essential item in any activity. Would you watch a football match if there are no goalposts ? What is the use of playing football when there are no goalposts. What’s the use of living when you do not know why. Honestly, I havent have a clear picture of mine yet. But, i know of those things which are currently important to me. I know of those values which I currently uphold.
In the previous post, I talked about the importance of doing what you love. Doing what you love is crucial to living a joyful and fulfilling life.
However, what if you have NOT find out what you love to do ? How do you find for that passion of yours ?
The following are the ways in which I would suggest to anyone wanting to find for their passion:
- Be patient. It takes time. If you still have not find for it, do not worry. Sometimes answers that take a longer time are bigger answers. You might find out that the answer when it comes, is something which blows your mind.
- Plant a seed. At a minimum, just ask yourself. Do not worry that they answer would not come. Just be confident that the answer will come in the near future. When you’re free, just ask yourself. You might even want to write down those thoughts.
- Change your Enviroment. Step out of your usual routine. Do something different for once. Go visit a totally different place. Do some things which you have never done. By doing something different, we give ourselves a totally different place for our minds to operate. It gives us a totally viewpoint of things. It is normally from this different enviroment that we get different ideas and viewpoints about things and life.
- Reflection/Solitude. Spend some time alone. Is ironic how our society do not advocate spending time alone. For me, that have brought me so many realisation from just spending time alone. See how your life have been and ask yourself what are those things that bring you joy and what are important to you.
- Be honest with yourself. Many people are not honest with themselves. When you ask if they are doing what they love, they will deceptively say that they do. They would just put up a mask to think that they are doing what they love. Remember, whether you are doing what you love is up to you. Putting up a mask so to deceive others that you’re doing what you love when you are not is only bringing you down. This will not help you find you passion.
- Tell yourself that we are all different. At times, we are unsure how being different would be. We might be doing something which is so different that from our peer group that we feel uncomfortable. Just tell yourself that everyone is different, don’t just stay in the same peer group to gain acceptance. You are different. Every single individual is different.
- Step aside from other commitments for a moment. If you have other commitments like a home loan or a car loan to pay, do not worry. You have to find what you love doing first. After finding them, then you can find away to settle those commitments. Many people do not ask themselves because they are so stuck in the ratrace of life that they don’t ask themselves what they love to do. Just disregard everything for a moment.
- Have the proper mindset. If you still have not find what you love to do, just focus on other things. Ask yourself, but if the answer doesn’t come, just tell yourself that when the answers come you’ll be courageous to go for it. Some people, although finding what they love to do, are afraid to go for it. Tell yourself to be courageous.
- Talk to others who have found their love. When you find someone who have found someone who has found what they love, talk to them. Get inspired by them. See how they love their work.
- What is acceptable to you ? Raise your acceptance level. What is the income you would like to make ? What are the ground rules for life ? Do you want time for other things other than life ? How do you want to contribute to others ? Knowing what you accept and do not is important to have a rough idea to what you want. I would rather do nothing and be happy than do something I don’t love.
Personally, this is a rough idea of what that is important for me.
- I want to work when only I want to.
- I would only work if I’m doing what I love.
- I want work which would use my flexibility and creativity.
- I want work which require me to be inspired everyday. Not just a job to pay bills and mortgage.
- I want work which challenge me to grow and improve as an individuals.
What are your rules ?
Have you found what you love to do ? I hope you will in the future. If you have found it, go for it !
